Dank des MATCHING PORTAL UKRAINE des Goethe-Instituts & Artist at Risk arbeitet die junge Medienkünstlerin Diana Derii aktuell im Atelierhaus Aachen. Zurzeit ist ihre Arbeit 360 in der Ausstellung COURAGE x CONTEMPORARY UKRAINIAN ARTISTS zu sehen. Am 16.10. (Sonntag) um 16 Uhr eröffnet ihre Einzelausstellung VISION OF LIFE in Maastricht (De Meldkamer, Capucijnenstraat 21), zu welcher wir herzlich einladen möchten.

"Vision of Life" ist ein Videokunstwerk, das im Mai 2022 auf den Straßen von Iwano-Frankiwsk, Ukraine, gedreht wurde. Die im Westen der Ukraine gelegene Stadt ist ein bedingt sicherer Ort in dem Land, das sich im Kriegszustand befindet. Die Dreharbeiten fanden während eines Luftalarms und nach der Ausgangssperre auf öffentlichen Plätzen statt. Nach 23 Uhr werden auf den Straßen alle Lichter ausgeschaltet, und die Bürger werden aufgefordert, die Lichtverhüllung zu beachten. Die Straßen sind in völlige Dunkelheit getaucht und nur mit der Spezialausrüstung können die Vorgänge in den Straßen der Stadt beobachtet werden.
Der Blick der Wärmebildkamera ist in der Regel auf ein potenzielles Opfer oder den Feind gerichtet. In der Zeit seit Beginn der aktiven Phase des Krieges starben mehr als 3.000 Zivilisten. Die Russen beschießen zivile Objekte wie Hochhäuser, Kindergärten und Schulen, Einkaufszentren, Bahnhöfe, Museen und Kulturstätten, ukrainisches Kulturgut und einfach öffentliche Räume. In letzter Zeit verwenden die Russen Raketen ohne Superpräzision, die in diesem Modus eine wahrscheinliche kreisförmige Ungenauigkeit von etwa 5 km haben. Die Flugbahn der Raketen ist also willkürlich, was den Einschlag betrifft. Es gibt eine App, die über den Luftalarm bei Raketen am Himmel benachrichtigt. Wenn jemand die App auf seinem Gerät installiert hat, erschallt ein lauter Warnton und in etwa 1 Minute wird das Notfallwarnsystem der Stadt aktiviert.
"Ich habe über die Logik dieser Luftschutzsirenen nachgedacht. Man sagt uns, das automatische System lese den Raum der gesamten Ukraine und erkenne die Flugbahn eines möglichen Raketenflugs, und dann werde der Alarm in allen Städten und Ortschaften in seinem Weg ausgelöst. In solchen Momenten sind wir wahrscheinlich alle durch den Flug der Rakete vereint, wobei die meisten von uns wahrscheinlich den gleichen Effekt haben. Dies ist ein zutiefst kybernetisches Ereignis der Kontrolle und Kommunikation im Tier und in der Maschine: eine Vermischung komplexer heterogener Systeme in einem riesigen Maßstab" von Svitlana Matviyenko.
Das Video wurde mit Wärmebildkameras während eines Luftalarms und nach der Ausgangssperre in den Straßen von Iwano-Frankiwsk in der Westukraine aufgenommen. Ein Ort der relativen Sicherheit in einem Land, das sich im Krieg befindet, wobei auf die Abhängigkeit der Zivilbevölkerung von einem Zustand ständiger Gefahr geachtet wird. Mit dem Beginn der aktiven Phase des Krieges, werden alle alltäglichen Probleme und Schwierigkeiten an einem Punkt zu ihrer Tat. Mit dem Zustand des reinen Geistes kommt ein Verständnis für den Wert des Lebens und eine völlige Ehrlichkeit mit sich selbst.
Die Ausstellung VISION OF LIFE in De Meldkamer, Maastricht, ist Teil des grenz- und disziplienenübergreifenden Projekts RAUM DENKEN.

DIANA DERII
Diana Derii ist eine Multimediakünstlerin, die auch unabhängige Kunstprojekte kuratiert und sich mit Kunstdokumentation in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine, beschäftigt. Sie wurde 1998 in Chortkiv, Region Ternopil, Ukraine, geboren und absolvierte die Kunstakademie Lviv (2015 - 2019), wo sie einen Bachelor-Abschluss in Restaurierung von Kunstwerken erwarb. Während ihrer Studienzeit übte sie sich in Ölmalerei und Performance. Im Jahr 2019 studierte sie an der School of Performance in Lviv. Während der Tage der Performance machte sie eine kollektive Performance mit Janusz Bałdyga Studenten. Im Jahr 2020 begann sie ihre
Praxis im Bereich der Medienkunst. In den letzten Jahren hat sie hauptsächlich mit Musikveranstaltungen und Festivals gearbeitet, ab 2020 ist sie visueller Resident des Detali Rave (größte Techno-Formation im Westen der Ukraine). Im Jahr 2020 machte sie eine audio-reaktive, visuell-generative Performance während des Videostreams für Plan B fest Online. Im Jahr 2021 machte sie eine Videoinstallation auf dem Detaliзація Festival. Diana debütierte als Kuratorin bei der multimedialen Gruppenausstellung "Cnoty", die LGBT+-Künstler in einer 63 Kessel
Fabrik in Iwano-Frankiwsk (Dezember 2021).
Im Jahr 2020 wurde sie Mitbegründerin des kreativen Raums Halabuda 63 in der Kesselschweißanlage in Iwano-Frankiwsk. Der Raum beherbergte Studios für elektronische Musiker, ein Kunstatelier und eine Veranstaltungshalle für kulturelle Events (Musikkonzerte und -festivals, Filmfestivals, Theateraufführungen, Kunstausstellungen). Zu Beginn des Krieges wurde der Raum geschlossen, da er sich auf einem strategischen Objekt befand. 2021 wurde sie Mitbegründerin der NGO Asortymentna kimnata, die Raum und eine Plattform für die Entwicklung moderner Kunst in Iwano-Frankiwsk schafft. Im Jahr 2022 wurde sie Mitbegründerin der NRO Detali, die sich auf die Entwicklung der elektronischen Musikszene und die außerschulische Musik- und Medienkunstausbildung konzentriert.
Die Vermittlungsplattform für Kulturschaffende des Goethe-Instituts in Kooperation mit der internationalen NGO Artists at Risk ist Teil eines umfassenden Maßnahmenpakets, für welches das Auswärtige Amt Mittel aus dem Ergänzungshaushalt 2022 zur Abmilderung der Folgen des russischen Angriffskrieges gegen die Ukraine bereitstellt. Diana Derii wurde so eine dreimonatige Residency in Aachen ermöglicht.

At the moment her work 360 can be seen in the exhibition COURAGE x CONTEMPORARY UKRAINIAN ARTISTS. On 16.10. “Vision of Life” is a video artwork that was filmed in May 2022 on the streets of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. The city located in the West of Ukraine is a conditionally safe place in the country in a state of war. The filming took place during an air alarm and after curfew in public spaces. On the streets after 11 pm, all lights are turned off and citizens are asked to obey the light masking. It turns out that the streets are plunged into complete darkness and only with the special equipment can we observe the processes taking place on the streets of the city. The view from the thermal imager is usually aimed at a potential victim or the enemy. During the period from the beginning of the active phase of the war, more than 3,000 civilians died. The Russians are shelling civilian objects such as high-rise buildings, kindergartens and schools, shopping malls, train stations, museums and cultural sites, Ukrainian heritage and just public spaces. Recently, the Russians have been using non-super-accuracy missiles, which in this mode have a probable circular inaccuracy of around 5 km. So the trajectory of the missiles is random to where the hit will be. There is an application dessigned to notify a person about air alarms about rockets in the sky. The person would hear it everywhere in the crowd if someone else has it installed on their device has it, in about 1 minute the city's emergency alert system is activated.
“I’ve been thinking about the logic of these air raid sirens. We are told the automatic system reads the space of entire Ukraine and identifies the trajectory of a potential rocket flight and then the alert goes off in all cities and towns in its way. In moments like this, we are probably all united by the flight of the rocket, with most of us probably sharing the same effect. This is a profoundly cybernetic event of control and communication in the animal and the machine: an intermixing of complex heterogeneous systems at a huge scale” by Svitlana Matviyenko.
The video was shot on thermal imagery during an air alarm and after curfew on the streets of Ivano-Frankivsk, Western Ukraine. Place of conditional security in the country in war, paying attention to the addiction of the civilians to a state of permanent danger. With the onset of the active phase of war, all everyday problems and difficulties at one point becomes their act. The state of the pure mind comes an understanding of the value of life and completely honest with oneself.
The exhibition VISION OF LIFE in De Meldkamer, Maastricht, is part of the cross-border and cross-disciplinary project RAUM DENKEN.

DIANA DERII
Diana Derii is a multimedia artist, her practice also includes curation of independent art projects, handling of art documentation based in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukraine. Born in 1998 in Chortkiv, Ternopil region, Ukraine and graduated from the Lviv Academy of Art (2015 - 2019), received a bachelor's degree in the restoration of artworks. During her student years she practiced in oil painting and performance. In 2019 studied at the School of Performance in Lviv. During Days of performance made a collective performance with Janusz Bałdyga students. In 2020, she began her
practice in the field of media art. In recent years she has mainly worked with music events and festivals, from 2020 she is a visual resident of Detali rave (biggest techno formation on the west of Ukraine). In 2020, she made an audio-reactive visual generative performance during videostream for Plan B fest Online. In 2021, she made a video installation on Detaliзація festival. Diana debuted as a curator at a multimedia group exhibition “Cnoty'' which included LGBT+ artists at a 63 boiler factory in Ivano-Frankivsk (December, 2021) .
In 2020, she became a co-founder of the creative space Halabuda 63 at the boiler-welding plant in Ivano-Frankivsk. The space housed studios for electronic musicians, an art studio and an event hall for cultural events (music concerts and festivals, film festivals, theater performances, art exhibitions). At the beginning of the war, the space was closed, because it was located on a strategic object. In 2021 she became a co-founder of the NGO Asortymentna kimnata, which creates space and a platform for development of modern art in Ivano-Frankivsk. In 2022 she became a co-founder of the NGO Detali, which focuses on the development of the electronic music scene and non-formal music and media art education.
The Goethe-Institut's matching platform for cultural professionals in cooperation with the international NGO Artists at Risk is part of a comprehensive package of measures for which the Federal Foreign Office is providing funds from the 2022 supplementary budget to mitigate the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Diana Derii was thus given the opportunity of a three-month residency in Aachen.
